Das Dekameron, Il Decamerone, ist eine mittelalterliche satirisch-allegorische Novellensammlung von Giovanni Boccaccio aus dem 14. Jahrhundert. Die raffinierte Rahmenhandlung erzählt von zehn jungen Frauen und Männern, die während der damals grassierenden Pest aus Florenz fliehen und in einem Landhaus au erhalb der Stadt Zuflucht vor dem Schwarzen Tod suchen. Auf dem Landsitz genie en sie unbeschwerte zehn Tage, in denen sie einander hundert Geschichten - erotischer, frivoler, tragischer und lehrreicher Natur - erzählen. Heute gilt das Dekameron als Ursprung der italienischen Prosa und als ein Werk, das die Weltliteratur nachhaltig beeinflu t hat. Die vorliegende Ausgabe beruht auf der sorgfältig überarbeiteten Übersetzung Albert Wesselskis und wurde mit erlesenen Kupferstichen bebildert.
