Graeme Simsion nació en Nueva Zelanda y en la actualidad reside en Melbourne. Después de una exitosa carrera en el campo de la informática, en 1999 vendió su empresa y decidió dedicarse a escribir a tiempo completo. Desde entonces ha publicado narraciones breves y obras de teatro, y ha producido algunos cortos a partir de guiones propios.

Concebida originalmente como guión cinematográfico -con el que obtuvo el AWG/ Inception Award al Mejor Guión de Comedia Romántica-, El Proyecto Esposa, primera novela de Simsion, se convirtió en todo un fenómeno de ventas en Australia, e incluso antes de ser publicada ya le habían otorgado el Victorian Premier's Unpublished Manuscript Award (premio al manuscrito no publicado).
