"Cuando K. llega a su destino para trabajar como agrimensor, es del todo incapaz de ocupar el puesto para el que ha sido contratado. Los esfuerzos que K. hace por contactar con su contratador o alguna autoridad con influencia en el castillo que pueda aclarar la situación son vanos: cada paso que da lo enmaraña más y más en unas relaciones sociales establecidas que le resultan ajenas, incomprensibles y que nunca son lo que parecen.

La incansable insistencia de K. por reclamar aquello que le corresponde y sus derechos acaba por conducirlo a situaciones absurdas a medio camino entre lo trágico y lo cómico. En su peripecia hacia el castillo, K. va mostrando lo irracional del poder y le da piel a la compleja vida del hombre moderno."
