Synopsis "El Lago (in Spanish)"

Chihiro, una joven artista mural que reside en Tokio, vive sumida en el dolor que le ha producido la muerte de su madre y en los recuerdos de la peculiar pareja que formaban sus padres. Durante esos dias envueltos en la tristeza, empieza a fijarse en un muchacho que habita en el edificio de enfrente: lo que al principio era solo un saludo, un cruce de palabras, acaba convirtiendose en amistad. Casualmente, tambien el chico, llamado Nakajima, ha perdido a su madre, pero todavia se siente tan abrumado que ni siquiera puede hablar de ello. Nakajima, pese a su edad, parece herido irremisiblemente por alguna misteriosa experiencia que ha marcado su vida. El intento de Chihiro por encontrar y ensamblar todas las piezas que la ayuden a componer ese rompecabezas que es Nakajima la conduce hasta dos amigos de el que llevan una vida monastica cerca de un hermoso lago. Mientras resuenan los ecos de la infame secta Aum Shinrikyo, autora del atentado con gas sarin en el metro de Tokio en 1995, los dos jovenes protagonistas intentan superar sus pasados respectivos para afrontar el futuro con esperanza.

Banana Yoshimoto (Tokyo, 1964) studied literature at Nihon University. With Kitchen, her first novel, she won the Newcomer Writers Prize in 1987, while she was still a university student, and a year later she was awarded the Izumi Kyoka Literary Prize for the same work. Among other awards, she has received the prestigious Scanno Award in Italy. Yoshimoto is already the author of an extensive but exquisite body of work consisting of essays, novels like N.P., Amrita, and Tsugumi, and storybooks such as Deep Sleep, Memories of a Dead-End Street, and Lizard. Since 1991, the year Tusquets Editores published Kitchen, Yoshimoto has become, along with Haruki Murakami, one of the most prestigious voices in contemporary Japanese literature.
