Rick Riordan (San Antonio, Texas, in 1964) is an American writer and teacher, known for his series of young adult novels that combine mythology and contemporary adventures. Before dedicating himself fully to writing, Riordan was a teacher of English and history in schools in Texas and California. His career took off with the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, started in 2005 with The Lightning Thief.
