Synopsis "El zorro de arriba y el zorro de abajo (in Spanish)"

Tal vez en ningún otro texto, José María Arguedas logra desnudarse frente al lector como lo hace en El zorro de arriba y el zorro de abajo. En ninguna de sus obras, quizás, haya peleado tanto con la palabra. Por ello se la considera como su testamento literario.

El 28 de noviembre de 1969, él mismo puso fin a su vida de un balazo. Concluía de ese trágico modo una existencia iniciada en Andahuaylas (Apurímac, Perú) en 1911, y que transcurrió entre las comunidades quechuas en la sierra, durante sus primeros años. Las experiencias de entonces lo nutrieron en sus investigaciones como antropólogo y folclorista, además de enriquecer sus expresiones narrativas, tal como lo evidencian sus Relatos completos (Losada, 2010), pero sobre todo sus tres grandes novelas: Los ríos profundos (1959), Todas las sangres (1964) y El zorro de arriba y el zorro de abajo (1971), que reincorporamos a nuestro catálogo.

José María Arguedas (Andahuaylas, January 18, 1911-Lima, December 2, 1969) was a Peruvian writer, poet, teacher, and anthropologist. He authored novels and stories that have led him to be considered one of the great representatives of Peruvian literature. The critic Martin Seymour-Smith regards Arguedas as "the greatest novelist of our time", who wrote "some of the most powerful prose the world has ever known".
