¿Se cierra una obra? Freud resume las adquisiciones teóricas y prácticas de los últimos años (Esquema del psicoanálisis) y consigna sus últimos pensamientos («Conclusiones, ideas, problemas»). Pero no habrá de cesar hasta el final de interrogarse sobre «la naturaleza de lo psíquico» («Algunas lecciones elementales sobre psicoanálisis»): lo psíquico que es «en sí inconsciente». El Esquema, menos «dogmático» de lo que parece, revela a un Freud siempre indeciso en cuanto al verdadero estatus del «ello» inconsciente; en ese texto, este «oscuro ello» se define una vez tras otra como pulsional y psíquico, hereditario e individual, primordial y reprimido. Una sola certeza, y estas serán las últimas palabras de la obra publicada: el ello es un «reino que está fuera del yo».

Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) was an Austrian neurologist and the founder of psychoanalysis. His work falls within the genre of psychology and philosophy of mind, revolutionizing the understanding of the unconscious.
