Synopsis "Evidence: Poems "

Never afraid to shed the pretense of academic poetry, never shy of letting the power of an image lie in unadorned language, Mary Oliver offers us poems of arresting beauty that reflect on the power of love and the great gifts of the natural world. Inspired by the familiar lines from William Wordsworth, "To me the meanest flower that blows can give / Thoughts that do often lie too deep for tears," she uncovers the evidence presented to us daily by nature, in rivers and stones, willows and field corn, the mockingbird's "embellishments," or the last hours of darkness.

Mary Oliver (1935-2019) was a distinguished American poet, born in Maple Heights, Ohio. Her work is characterized by a deep connection with nature and a reflection on the human experience. Throughout her career, she received numerous accolades, including the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1984 for her collection "American Primitive" and the National Book Award in 1992 for "New and Selected Poems". Among her most notable works are "La escritura indómita" (2021), "Horas de invierno" (2022), and "Nuestro mundo" (2023). Oliver regularly published both poetry and prose, exploring themes such as the intersection between the human and natural world, and the limits of human language to express such a connection.
