En forma paralela esta pregunta tambien surge desde los albores de la Medicina, que como uno de sus principios en develar la etiología de las enfermedades. Por etiología entendemos el estudio de las causas, origen o motivo que contribuyen al inicio y desarrollo de una enfermedad. El conocimiento de las etiologías permite identificar estos factores para reconocer, tratar y adoptar medidas preventivas tanto en las enfermedades físicas como mentales.
