Being thrust into conflict with Jonathan Petty the son and black sheep of the Petty family after losing his inheritance creates tension. Unable to resolve their differences Cain along with his father go to war with the cunning and vicious Jonathan. Jonathan also has a family secret and will protect it at any cost, even commit murder. Cain's new found wealth with plantation homes, cotton fields and running a successful business becomes overwhelming. Understanding the enormity of running such a business his mother and father agree to move into the plantation home to help out. Sheriff Cargill who is like family agrees to move with them. The lovable Sheriff is very much part of the story and will make you laugh and melt your heart. One of the sub plots involve the Jackson Whites a group of mixed breeds, all descendants of a genetic anomaly spawned from inbreeding in their families. The chiseled-faced people includes slaves and escaped convicts who live no better than animals. They become a force to be dealt with committing murder, stealing and kidnapping young women. A marvelously written book and compelling story of abuse, hardships, deceit, betrayal, forgiveness and unrequited love, that covers over 30 years and 3 generations makes Ghost of Panther Holler a truly Epic Journey.
