Glimpses of a Biographer's Diaries 1961 - 2000
Gordon Bowker (Author) · Ramdei Bowker · Paperback
Glimpses of a Biographer's Diaries 1961 - 2000 is Gordon Bowker's own account of his professional career as a lecturer, a journalist but mostly as a biographer. The memoire is a compilation of Bowker's own recollections as he scrupulously unpicked and exposed the inner worlds of some of our great literary elite through his own activities between 1961 and 2000. Bowker's most enduring legacy arguably comprises his biographies, featuring Malcolm Lowry, Lawrence Durrell, George Orwell and James Joyce, authors he didn't just pick from his book shelf for their celebrated bodies of work, or indeed their hell-raising antics or uncompromising politics, but for something much more personal. His personal description from his diaries is an exhilarating, humorous and true account of a raconteur, who dodged an early death three times, and went on to fulfil his literary ambitions on a grand scale. This account was compiled and is introduced by his Widow Ramdei Bowker in 2025, six years after Gordon Bowker himself passed away. The memoire is published in his memory.
