Mikako Gouda es una joven y ambiciosa estudiante del colegio de artes Yazawa que sueña con convertirse en una diseñadora de modas y tener su propio local en el que vender su marca "Happy Berry". Desde chica, Mikako es amiga de su vecino, Tsutomu Yamaguchi, un chico que no parece tener muy en claro lo que quiere en la vida y que se encuentra secretamente enamorado de ella. Pero cuando Tsutomu comience a llamar la atención y volverse popular entre las chicas, despertará en Mikako una serie de sentimientos encontrados que ni ella podrá comprender... ¿Será que está enamorada de su mejor amigo?

Como ya sabrán, o pueden inferir leyendo la sinopsis, Mikako Gouda no es ni más ni menos que la hermana mayor de Miwako, uno de los personajes principales de la obra posterior de Ai Yazawa, Paradise Kiss. En Gokinjo Monogatari la autora comenzó a crear el universo en el cual, posteriormente, se desarrollaría la emocionante historia de Yukari y sus amigos, y en la que incluso se pueden encontrar múltiples cameos y referencias a esta serie.

Ai Yazawa, born in 1967 in Osaka, Japan, is a prominent mangaka known for her works aimed at the female audience, especially in the shōjo and josei genres. At 17, she began her career by publishing in the Ribon magazine, and her training in fashion design is reflected in her stories, where fashion and interpersonal relationships are central themes.

Among her most notable works are "I'm Not an Angel" (1991-1995), "Neighborhood Story" (1995-1998), "Paradise Kiss" (1999-2003), and "NANA" (2000-2009), all in the shōjo or josei genre. "NANA" received adaptations to anime and film, establishing itself as one of the most influential series of its time.
