Synopsis "Happy Dreams"

Happy is the name Elizabeth Raines has chosen to call the baby whom she was never allowed to see. Throughout her twenty years in prison, she has pictured the child waiting for her. Hence, when she is finally released, the first item on her agenda is to claim her offspring. If only Happy is alive; if only she can find him/her. Set in Iowa against the backdrop of the Native American settlement and the Meskwaki Hotel and Casino, the book follows Liz's, sometimes humorous, attempts to recapture her chance at motherhood. A new friend and a former love enrich her new life, but they can't stop the trouble that is soon to throw a wrench into the young white woman's plans. Twists of fate bring an unexpected climax that will fix the story in your memory for weeks to come and leave you wanting to discuss it with friends. Two pages of questions are provided.
