Into the Ocean is the second in a series of four children's bedtime adventure books. The series takes children up to the moon, into the ocean, out to the mountains and across the desert.

In this second book, Into the Ocean!, a child prepares for bed and then goes on an adventure with a dog and a guardian in a zoomfloomery (sailboat) into the ocean. They meet many creatures on their way to the ocean floor including the king crab quartet. When they reach the bottom, there is a mola mola (sunfish), a clownfish and many more creatures to meet. The child bumps into an anemone impressionist artist and needs to repair the wetsuit. A whale takes them to the haberdasher to sew the suit. Returning to the surface they see an otter stuck in muck and take him to the aquarium to recover. They sail safely to bed and make wishes before sleep.

The last page of each bedtime adventure book ends with:

"Now tomorrow is coming, and it's time to sleep. 'What will it bring?' we think. 'Who will we meet?!'"

The last page of the story Into the Ocean introduces the mountain creatures who are part of the next adventure, Out to the Mountains!
