In prison, I had a choice to make. I could continue on the path of ignorance or I could gain the knowledge that would propel me forward. Problem was I didn't know what I didn't know. I could only rely on what I saw on the block. Truck drivers and hot dog carts were the only legit businesses I saw. I learned that I needed more learning about the system that sought to keep me soft.

I was lost in a perspective of lack just as the system was designed. I learned the negatives early. But I also learned love from my family. I learned entrepreneurship from the block. The neighborhood taught me pride. Reading taught me that I was a king. I only had to build my kingdom.

I started with a hot dog cart and have never looked back to system-confirming illegal activity. My memoir is meant to encourage and inspire. My story is as possible as your will to choose to thrive beyond your need to survive. My hope is that all who read find perseverance no matter the odds against them.

Life is tough. You must commit to being tougher. You will be tempted to play small or shut down. My advice: Keep Going Hard.
