Synopsis "Kierkegaard After Macintyre: Essays on Freedom, Narrative, and Virtue "

The last decade has seen a revival of interest in Kierkegaard's thought, particularly in the fields of theology, social theory, and literary and cultural criticism. The resulting discussions have done much to discredit the earlier misreadings of Kierkegaard's works. This collection of essays by Kierkegaard scholars represents the new consensus on Kierkegaard and his conception of moral selfhood. It answers the charges of one of Kierkegaard's biggest critics, contemporary philosopher Alasdair MacIntyre, and shows how some of Kierkegaard's insights into tradition, virtuous character, and the human good may actually support MacIntyre's ideas.

Alasdair MacIntyre (Glasgow, Scotland, January 12, 1929) is a prestigious Scottish philosopher, widely known for his critical analyses of contemporary moral thought and his advocacy of Aristotelian ethics and community traditions. With a PhD in philosophy, MacIntyre gained prominence with the publication of After Virtue, a fundamental work that marked a before and after in moral philosophy, promoting the recovery of virtues in the ethical and social spheres. Throughout his career, he has been a professor at prominent universities in Europe and the United States, also contributing as the author of numerous works that address everything from Marxism and the Christian tradition to critiques of the Enlightenment. His thought, characterized by deep scholarship and an unusual ability to engage with various philosophical currents, positions him as an influential figure in contemporary philosophy.
