Synopsis "La dernière caravane. Alexine Tinne au sahara, 1867-1869 L'odyssée d'une exploratrice hollandaise au XIXe siècle (in French)"

Le Sahara de la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle semble un continent dangereux réservé à de courageux explorateurs. Pourtant, une femme va tenter de relever le défi, Alexine Tinne. Née à La Haye en 1835, elle est surtout connue pour ses voyages entre 1861 et 1865 en Egypte et au Soudan, en particulier pour ses découvertes en botanique. En 1866, elle réalise une circumnavigation en Méditerranée avant de rejoindre l'Algérie. Mais l'insécurité du pays l'oblige à se rendre ensuite en Libye où elle croise, à Tripoli, les explorateurs sahariens Rohlfs et Nachtigal. Seule pour conduire sa caravane vers Ghât, elle meurt d'un coup d'épée le 1er août 1869.
