President of the National Falange and the Christian Democrat Party in different periods. Senator of the Republic between 1965 and 1973 for the 6th provincial group. President of the Senate between 1971 and 1972. He was the spokesperson for the Coalition of Parties for the No in 1988 and President of the Republic (1990-1994). Author of various books, including The Reunion of Democrats (1998)
