Synopsis "La promesse (in French)"

Le point de départ du roman est un épisode tragique qui s'est réellement déroulé en 1944 en Touraine. L'auteur a imaginé très librement les causes possibles de la tragédie ainsi que ses conséquences inattendues. L'action se déroule essentiellement aux États-Unis quelques années après la fin de la Seconde guerre mondiale. L'enquête d'un détective privé (ancien policier de Philadelphie) sur des crimes qui semblent n'avoir aucun lien entre eux va entraîner le lecteur dans l'Amérique bouillonnante de la fin des années 50, d'un stade surchauffé de base-ball aux rues d'émeutes de Birmingham jusqu'aux caves enfiévrées de jazz de La Nouvelle-Orléans.
