Die Implikationen des endogenen technischen Fortschritts durch learning by doing für offene Volkswirtschaften werden unter positiven und normativen Gesichtspunkten formalmathematisch analysiert. Durch die Berücksichtigung der Faktorausstattungen als Erklärung für unterschiedliche Lerneffekte erfolgt in der positiven Analyse eine Verbindung des Ricardo-Modells mit dem Heckscher-Ohlin-Samuelson-Modell. Unter plausiblen Annahmen erzielen relativ kapitalreiche Länder langfristig grö ere Lerneffekte. In der normativen Analyse werden die mit dem Erziehungszollargument verbundenen Fragestellungen ausführlich diskutiert und wirtschaftspolitische Implikationen des learning by doing für offene Volkswirtschaften abgeleitet. Das neoklassische 2 x 2 x 2-Modell der Au enhandelstheorie wird kompakt dargestellt.
