Este es mi libro más personal; personal aunque no puramente subjetivo. Hablo en él de la historia cultural de América Latina, del discurso historiográfico de la izquierda latinoamericana, de los intelectuales y su escritura, de la universidad y de la educación pública. Releo, pero a la luz de las circunstancias actuales, La sociedad del espectáculo, el libro de Guy Debord de 1967; la carta de renuncia de Aimé Césaire al Partido Comunista Francés de 1956, y la interpretación que le infligió Homi Bhabha al pensamiento de Frantz Fanon en 1885 y en 1994; eso, además de otros textos, novelas, ensayos, poesía, que también me parecieron importantes.

Grínor Rojo holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Iowa, United States (1971). His areas of expertise include Literature and culture in Latin America, Critical theory, and Latin American Theater. He is the author of over 150 publications, including articles, book chapters, and books. Among them, the most recent are: Critical History of Chilean Literature. Vol. I. The Colonial Era. Santiago de Chile. LOM Editores, 2017, co-edited with Carol Arcos; The Novels of the Dictatorship and Post-Dictatorship in Chile. Vol. I. Santiago de Chile. He is currently the lead researcher of the Fondecyt project "Latin American Culture of the Second Modernity: 1920-1973". Among the courses he has taught recently are: Theory of the Novel, Theory of Poetry, and Latin American Culture of the Second Modernity: 1920-1973.
