Synopsis "Loving Winston "

A work of historical and time travel fiction. The protagonist, Sherry Marston, a history professor from Washington DC finds herself in the presence of Winston S. Churchill, world statesman and moves back and forth between the present time in Washington DC and England, 1935, during a time when Churchill is not in power, but is making efforts to alert England of the potential of Hitler's plans for world domination. During this run up to the war Churchill's wife Clementine is on a cruise in the South Seas with friends. Churchill knowing Sherry is writing a historical novel about Clementine and Winston Churchill's marriage and their life together. Churchill appears travels across time to visit Sherry and attempts to have her put her writing aside. She struggles to understand the time travel, and assumes it is delusional, based on her personal history of mental illness and bipolar disease. Through the novel the two bond to each other and Sherry comes to a place of understanding the intricacies of the run up to World War II, meets some of the players who helped Churchill reach out to the English people to help them understand the risks ahead. In the meantime there is a romance Sherry has with a modern day diplomat in Washington, Charley Winston. There is intrigue, character study and some learning about mental illness. Winston Churchill, while not diagnosed with bipolar disease, had bouts of deep depression he called his "Black Dog." The novel has interesting characters, including Sherry's best friend, Darla, who has two small children, a husband who is trying to reshape her from a bookstore owner to a suburban housewife. Darla struggles to help Sherry and Sherry tries to support her friend. The novel is a fantasy based on the author's long appreciation and study of Winston S. Churchill and how his work and passion saved Western Civilization from destruction. There are many books written about Winston S. Churchill. This effort is not intended to be a scholarly treatise, but a fanciful story based on the writer's knowledge of Churchill, family experiences with mental illness, and an interest in writing an entertaining historical story.
