Synopsis "Maus I & II Paperback Box Set (Multiple items, slip-cased)"

A SPECIAL-EDITION BOXSET CREATED TO CELEBRATE THE PULITZER-PRIZE WINNING GRAPHIC NOVEL'S 40TH ANNIVERSARY

'The first masterpiece in comic book history' The New Yorker

'The most affecting and successful narrative ever done about the Holocaust' Wall Street Journal

A brutally moving work of art -- widely hailed as the greatest graphic novel ever written -- MAUS recounts the chilling experiences of the author's father during the Holocaust, with Jews drawn as wide-eyed mice and Nazis as menacing cats.

Maus is a haunting tale within a tale, weaving the author's account of his tortured relationship with his aging father into an astonishing retelling of one of history's most unspeakable tragedies. It is an unforgettable story of survival and a disarming look at the legacy of trauma.

This paperback box set includes MAUS in its original two-volume format, re-released with an exclusive sixteen-page booklet designed by the artist himself.

'A brutally moving work of art' Boston Globe

'No summary can do justice to Spiegelman's narrative skill' Adam Gopnik

'Like all great stories, it tells us more about ourselves than we could ever suspect' Philip Pullman

'A capital-G Genius' Michael Chabon

He was born in 1948 in Stockholm, Sweden. Three years later, he and his parents, survivors of a Nazi concentration camp, moved to New York. In the 60s, he began working as an illustrator for the Topps Chewing Gum Co. in the GARBAGE PAIL KIDS series and created autobiographical underground stories, among which PRISONER OF THE HELL PLANET stands out, where he illustrates family reactions to his mother's suicide. In 1978, he created the magazine RAW, a publication that serves as a refuge for all those North American and European authors whose work does not fit in the popular market. It was in RAW where he introduced his most famous work: MAUS. He is a professor at the School of Visual Arts in New York and has illustrated publications in NEW YORK TIMES, PLAYBOY, VILLAGE VOICE, and the weekly THE NEW YORKER.
