Synopsis "Mineral Extractivism: A Look at the Emerald Mining"

In the center north of Bahia, in the micro-region of Senhor do Bonfim-Ba, 414 km from the capital Salvador, covering part of the municipality of Pindobaçu, the practice of mining work of Carnaíba began in the 1960s, the locality has geological characteristics with metassedimentary sequences granites and ultramafic rocks, which is highlighted in the production of emerald and since this period the mineral extraction has become of great importance for the local population, since it generates income for the economy of the region in which it is inserted. In this context, the research aimed to analyze the environmental panorama and the correlation with mineral extraction. It was found that a management plan is needed for the municipality, and that it is necessary to adopt work safety practices to improve underground working conditions and a specialized health program for the miners. The study sought to strengthen local development for coexistence with mineral extractivism in harmony with the environment.
