Synopsis "Nerve conduction velocity- A normative study"

This is original study conducted in India. Nerve conduction study is really helpful in diagnosis of various disease like radiculopathy, neuropathy, neuropathy induced metabolic disorders etc. this is normative study in central India Peripheral nerves usually can be easily stimulated and brought to an action potential with a brief electrical pulse applied to the overlying skin . The electrodiagnostic examination, consisting of nerve conduction studies (NCV) and needle Electromyography (EMG), is a useful adjunct to the clinical examination of the peripheral nervous system .In evaluating the patient with extremity trauma, it can differentiate neurapraxia from axonal transection and can be helpful in following the clinical course. NCV is a test of the speed of signals through a nerve. Nerve conduction studies help delineate the extent and distribution of the neural lesion and distinguish two major categories of peripheral nerve disease demyelination and axonal degeneration.
