Synopsis "O'Flaherty V.C"

O'Flaherty V.C., A Recruiting Pamphlet (1915) is a comic one-act play written during World War I by George Bernard Shaw. The plot is about an Irish soldier in the British army returning home after winning the Victoria Cross. The play was written at a time when the British government was attempting to promote recruitment in Ireland, while many Irish republicans expressed opposition to a war to defend the British Empire.

George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) was an influential Irish playwright, critic, and essayist, known for his sharp satire and witty style. He primarily wrote plays, excelling in social drama and comedies with critical content. His most famous work, Pygmalion (1913), inspired the renowned musical adaptation My Fair Lady. He also wrote Saint Joan (1923), Man and Superman (1903), and Widowers' Houses (1892), among many others.

Shaw received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1925 for his contribution to literature, especially for his influence on modern theater. His legacy continues thanks to his ability to combine humor, irony, and social criticism in his writings, establishing himself as one of the most significant figures in English-language theater.
