Este libro repasa la historia y la memoria contemporanea de la comarca de los Montes Orientales de Granada, una de las zonas mas pobres de Europa en la actualidad, poniendo como eje transversal la tierra puesto que ha sido ?y en parte sigue siendo? la unica fuente de riqueza de sus habitantes. Convertirse en propietarios fue siempre su deseo y esa idea estuvo presente en estas localidades durante la historia reciente de España: desde la republica y la Guerra Civil, pasando por el franquismo y la emigracion hasta la democracia. This book reviews the history and contemporary memory of the Montes Orientales region of Granada, one of the poorest areas of Europe today, with the land as a crosscutting theme, since it has been - and in part continues to be - the only source of wealth for its inhabitants. Becoming landowners was always their desire and this idea was present in these localities throughout Spain?s recent history: from the republic and the Civil War, through Franco?s regime and emigration to democracy.
