Peculiar Engagements is a mystery series following Xristian Cornack - consultant, gentleman of independent means, and a man who has been alive considerably longer than the cut of his suit suggests.

He is not a detective. He will tell you this with complete composure and genuine accuracy and it will nonetheless fail to explain why trouble finds him with such reliable enthusiasm across every city, century, and dimensional configuration he passes through. The cases come to him the way they always have - not because he looks for them, but because he is, in some frequency that defies straightforward description, exactly the right person for them.

Each title in the series is a standalone mystery set against the broader operations of the Foxander Casino and Resort Complex, whose interests span more jurisdictions than its official documentation acknowledges. Xristian moves between the physical world and its adjacent layers with the ease of someone who has had a long time to learn the geography, accompanied by an assistant whose composure is nearly equal to his own and a support network that includes, among other resources, a café that does not appear on any floor plan and a log-keeper who notices everything.

Underneath the cases - the bodies, the provenance disputes, the lots that don't officially exist, the interested parties who exit through dimensional access points before anyone can ask the right questions - there is a longer story.
