Pregnancy is a physiological event with differentiated physical and emotional changes in each woman. Por isso é importante identificar a percepção das mães sobre a atuação dos profissionais de saúde no pré-natal de uma unidade básica de saúde; conhecer a percepção das mães sobre as orientações recebidas na unidade básica de saúde durante o pré-natal; conhecer a percepção das mães sobre a preparação do parto orientado pelos profissionais de saúde. Os dados foram coletados através de entrevistas semiestruturadas com mulheres no puerpério e que realizaram pré-natal no Posto de Saúde Materno Infantil, São Leopoldo-RS, realizou-se o tratamento pela análise de conteúdo. Where most participants considered that, among the professionals are the doctors who should perform prenatal care. The most discussed educational approaches, probable date of delivery, gestational weight, puerperal consultation and breastfeeding, were in second place. Therefore, it is essential to rediscuss the policies on prenatal care in primary care, taking as a starting point the perception of prenatal care users, because this new approach can effect comprehensive and humanized care.
