Among them is Mago, once an aid worker helping the displaced and now permanently displaced herself.
Separated from her partner, Rosie, Mago is broken by grief and the memory of a life that no longer exists while also navigating brutal violence, searing indifference, and the relentless loss of identity.
Meanwhile, Rosie has built a steady new home in Zimbabwe, working with refugees. Never giving up hope that Mago is still alive.
Across countries and years, their journeys diverge and intertwine through camps and cities and through kindness and cruelty. Each searching not only for each other but also for a place to call home.
At its heart, Refugee is a love story that defies time, distance, and devastation. But it is also a story of redemption.
