Synopsis "ROLL with it!"

Join Moon Bear, Panda Bear and Polar Bear as they learn how rolling makes life easier! ROLL stands for: Respect, Open-mindedness, Listening and Learning -- concepts promoted in the International Baccalaureate Learner Profile and the foundation of stable, productive relationships. The first in the ROLL series, ROLL with it! features cute, colourful illustrations and concepts that inspire many different conversations that you can have with your little one when discussing what it means to "ROLL with it". Here are some ideas: 1) Ask your little one to think of other things that roll ... buttons, coins, etc. Talk about shapes and how different life would be if there were no circles and nothing that rolled.2) Respect is the foundation of getting along with others and living a positive, productive life. In addition to the pages on respect, point out other places in the book where the bears are showing respect: On the Open Mind page, discuss how it is being respectful to try new things that someone offers you (and also how to respectfully decline if, for example, peanuts are being offered, but you are allergic to peanuts). On the Listening page, point out how it is respectful to listen to people speak and not interrupt when they are talking (and not just when they are reading a story). On the Learning page, point out how the bears are respecting nature and the environment by learning how to garden. 3) If the concept of an 'open mind' is hard to grasp, explain how they open their eyes to see and open their mouths to speak. Opening their minds is similar because it lets in new ideas so their imaginations and knowledge can grow, and they can expand their horizons and their potential. Other words that can be represented by ROLL include: Responsibility and Relationships; Obligation, and "Leave" (an option when there is a lack of respect). These and other concepts are introduced later in the series. When woven together, they help us to see that life is so much more fun and easy when we ROLL with it!
