Synopsis "Schizoidie Und Schizoide Personlichkeitsstorung: Psychodynamik - Diagnostik - Psychotherapie (in German)"

Otto F. Kernberg, a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst from the American School, was born in Vienna in 1928, and in 1939 he emigrated with his family to Chile to escape Nazi persecution, where he trained as a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst. In 1959, he moved to the United States, where he developed his professional career and psychoanalytic work. Since 1976, he has been the director of the Personality Disorders Institute at the Presbyterian Hospital in New York and a professor of Psychiatry at Cornell University and Columbia University.

Due to his theoretical-clinical training in two countries with different lines of thought, his greatest success consisted in solidly articulating different psychoanalytic theories alongside psychiatry. His psychoanalytic thought is influenced by Sigmund Freud, with the drive theory; by Ronald Fairbairn and Melanie Klein, with the object relations theory; by Erik Erikson, Edith Jacobson, and Margaret Mahler, with the psychology of the self; and by Frieda Fromm-Reichmann, with ideas on the treatment of psychotics and severe patients, among others.
