Synopsis "Shifting Sands"

About once a year, Molly Johnson, a Florida teen, unwittingly 'shifts' into the body of someone else. It could be anyone, anywhere. One February morning, Molly's strawberry curls are gone, replaced by the long ebony waves of Magda Armides, a Coptic christian teenager in Cairo. As Molly struggles to fit into a world she barely understands, she discovers a dangerous truth: in a culture where inter-religious relationships are akin to treason, Magda is in love with a young Muslim, Ahmed Najjar. Molly and Ahmed keep their relationship hidden, until a classmate snaps a photo of a stolen kiss and sends it to the entire student body of the Cairo American Academy. To Molly and Ahmed's dismay, their illicit tryst hits the Internet and goes viral. Forced out of hiding, they must now confront the age-old issues of religious intolerance in their homes and communities. What begins as a battle against punitive parents and cruel and disapproving classmates turns life-threatening when Molly begins to receive mysterious text messages telling her to 'repent or be punished'. Soon she finds herself in a wild chase through the chaotic streets of Cairo as the hunt for a terrorist madman intensifies.
