An anonymous author is one whose identity is not known or not revealed in a work. This can be due to various reasons, such as the author's desire to remain anonymous, the loss of historical records, or the collective nature of the work. There are many examples, to name a few: Popol Vuh, One Thousand and One Nights, and The Epic of Gilgamesh, but the list is long and probably as long as writing continues, it will never stop growing.

In other cases, anonymity may be due to political or security reasons, especially when the content of the work is controversial or challenging for the time it was published.
