Jon Scieszka (Michigan, 1954) es conocido sobre todo por su colaboración prolífica con el dibujante Lane Smith. Consumado autor de cuentos infantiles, Scieszka ofrece como propuesta de valor ideas innovadoras de clásicos. Prueba de ello son dos de sus más célebres creaciones: El apestoso hombre queso y La verdadera historia de los tres cerditos. Scieszka se formó académicamente como escritor, y es que estudió un Master de Bellas Artes en Ficción en la Universidad de Columbia. La labor de Scieszka no es exclusivamente literaria, pues, por ejemplo, es un reconocido defensor de la lectura, y para ello fundador de Guys Read, un proyecto web para motivar a los jóvenes que quieran convertirse en lectores avezados de por vida. Por esto y otras razones, Jon Scieszka fue nombrado en 2008 Embajador Nacional de Literatura Juvenil en Estados Unidos. El propio Scieszka ha manifestado en más de una ocasión que escribe para hacer reír a los niños y que, por ello, hace uso de un estilo tan irreverente y jocoso. Algunos premios que Scieszka ha cosechado, además de vender best-sellers, son el Golden Duck Award y el American Library Association Best Books for Young Adults.
