Die 2010 von Hürzeler et al. vorgestellte Socket-Shield-Technik (SST) stellt eine biologisch motivierte Innovation im Rahmen der partiellen Extraktionstherapie (PET) dar. Indem das bukkale Wurzelfragment bei der Sofortimplantation bewusst zurückgehalten wird, bleiben das parodontale Ligament und das Knochenbündel erhalten, wodurch die Kammkontur und die Ästhetik des darüber liegenden Weichgewebes erhalten bleiben.
