Solomon Kane es un personaje de ficción creado por Robert E. Howard, autor de Conan el Bárbaro. Un puritano inglés de finales del siglo XVI o comienzos del siglo XVII, Solomon Kane es un hombre de aspecto sombrío, piel pálida y rostro demacrado. Viste siempre completamente de negro y porta un chambergo, guantes de cuero, botas de montar, jubón y capa. Duelista y espadachín formidable, sus armas son una espada ropera, un dirk y pistolas de chispa. Deambula por el mundo sin motivo aparente alguno, salvo erradicar el mal en todas su formas.

A diferencia de otros personajes de Howard, como Conan el Bárbaro o Kull de Valusia, Solomon Kane no vive en tiempos remotos ni fantásticos. Sus aventuras, publicadas principalmente en la revista pulp Weird Tales, le llevan con frecuencia de Europa a las selvas africanas y de vuelta.

Sus aventuras se sitúan en el ámbito de la fantasía y se encuadran en el subgénero de espada y brujería.

El libro incluye todos los relatos escritos en vida por Robert E. Howard sobre el Solomon Kane, de forma íntegra a partir de los cuentos originales, y no de las versiones que sufrieron tras la prematura muerte de su autor. El tomo se cierra con el único relato de corte histórico protagonizado por Sonya la Roja que Howard escribiera en vida.

Robert Ervin Howard (Peaster, Texas, 1906 – Cross Plains, Texas, 1936) was an American writer whose influence on fantasy literature is profound and lasting. From a young age, he showed a great passion for history and reading, which led him to start writing stories at fifteen and to sell his first text at eighteen. He is widely recognized as one of the creators of the sword and sorcery subgenre, especially for his iconic character Conan the Barbarian, who debuted in 1932 and became a cultural symbol. Additionally, he created other memorable characters like Kull of Atlantis and Solomon Kane, who also transcended literature to reach cinema and comics. His life was marked by his mother's illness and family instability, which influenced his reserved nature and his work. He maintained a close friendship with H. P. Lovecraft, with whom he shared ideas about civilization and barbarism. Despite his success in Weird Tales magazine and his prolific output of over three hundred stories, he faced economic and personal difficulties, culminating in his suicide at thirty, following his mother's death.
