Seit Beginn der 1990er Jahre hat sich das Phänomen des Staatszerfalls im Angesicht von Völkermord und Bürgerkriegen zu einem der grö ten sicherheitspolitischen Probleme des internationalen Systems entwickelt. Die gegenwärtigen Zerfallsprozesse stehen dabei in enger Verbindung mit der Privatisierung von Gewalt und der Ausweitung alternativer Herrschaftsstrukturen und stellen auf diese Weise das Konzept des Nationalstaates zu Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts zunehmend in Frage. Trotz der aktuellen Probleme ist das Phänomen des Staatszerfalls wissenschaftlich bislang noch nicht ausreichend erforscht. Dieses Buch liefert einen Überblick über den aktuellen Forschungsstand und einen theoretisch-konzeptionellen Ansatz zur Erfassung des Staatszerfalls.
