La vida del célebre poeta sueco Jesper Humlin es tan regalada como vacua, sumida en una inanidad apenas salpimentada por las trifulcas con su pareja, las envidias de sus colegas y el apremio de los editores. Sin embargo, tal vez Jesper conserve un resto de dignidad al rechazar la propuesta de su editor de que escriba novela s policiacas, que venden cincuenta veces más que la poesía (¡hasta su anciana madre se ha puesto a escribir una!).
