Synopsis "Terminal Identity"

In two weeks, Alexander Strong must undergo the procedure he helped build. His body will be destroyed. The company promises he won’t notice. At HybrisPlex, Al has spent years mapping the human mind for transfer into synthetic bodies. The technology promises an end to aging and disease. Now the government has made uploading compulsory. Then a colleague admits to a moment she cannot explain—a gap between the life she remembers and the person who remembers it. Soon afterward, she can no longer recall why it troubled her. Al begins looking through the system he helped design. His friend Richard Monroe, a Christian philosopher, presses him to examine the assumption beneath every successful transfer: that preserving a person’s memories means preserving the person. With the deadline approaching and the woman he loves scheduled for upload, Al needs an answer he can defend. Finding it means risking his career, exposing the people helping him, and submitting himself to a machine whose assurances he no longer trusts. Terminal Identity is a science-fiction thriller about consciousness, faith, and the human cost of a promised immortality.
