A young person once asked me why it was necessary for God to send His only son to die. This is absolutely not a really unusual question for someone to ask. And sure, the first thing that popped into my head ("to save us from our sins") was absolutely a very correct answer. But standing by itself, it really isn't much of an answer at all, is it? And while you are about answering those questions, just how did one man's death serve the purpose of "saving" us anyway? And please tell me what this whole business of a "cross" is. Why crucifixion? Why not some other method of death? Wouldn't the same objective have been achieved from a hanging or even by being stoned to death? God, we will see, had His reasons for this, as He does for all things, such as the timing of when He would send the Messiah to fulfill what He had ordained to take place. We may never really understand why God waited so many hundreds - even thousands - of years to send His beloved Son to complete His plan of Salvation. But we just may be able to better understand part the wisdom of the timing concerning that age of human history in that regard, especially as it applies to the method of Jesus' death.
