Eliphas Lévi, pseudonym of Alphonse Louis Constant (1810–1875), was a French occultist, writer, and former seminarian, considered a key figure in the revival of Western esotericism in the 19th century. Although he began his life within Catholicism, he left the priesthood to dedicate himself to writing and esoteric philosophy. His most influential work, *Dogma and Ritual of High Magic* (1854–1856), laid the foundations of modern ceremonial magic.
