Johnston McCulley (1883-1958) was an American writer known for his adventure literature and pulp fiction works. His most famous creation is Zorro, a masked vigilante who first appeared in The Curse of Capistrano (1919), published in All-Story Weekly magazine. Due to its success, the story was compiled and published as a novel in 1924 under the title Zorro.

McCulley wrote numerous sequels to the character, consolidating his legacy in literature and cinema. In addition to the Zorro stories, he explored other genres, such as crime and adventure, writing for pulp magazines. His dynamic style and ability to create masked heroes influenced popular culture and the evolution of the superhero genre.
