MARY NORTON (1903-1992) lived in England, where she worked as an actress, screenwriter, and award-winning writer. As a child, she created an imaginary world in which tiny beings inhabited the bushes near human homes, unbeknownst to them. It is from this personal fantasy that her most famous books, those about the Borrowers, originate. But before The Borrowers, she wrote two huge stories that enjoyed great popularity: The Magic Bedknob and Bonfires and Broomsticks, which were later combined into this single book.
