Synopsis "The Unknown King"

Esther Ebireri's Christian fiction, The Unknown King; follows king Makimba, the king of Sakhi Kingdom; and his son, Prince Rufai. King Makimba is a Core Traditionalist; with a stature that matches perfectly with his large heart. Standing above six feet, he is acclaimed to be the tallest man that had ruled the Sakhi kingdom. Prince Rufai, king Makimba's only son; and heir to the throne, has always admired his father"s philosophical approach to leadership. So he sits beside his father, asking questions about matters that relates to the throne; and the Sakhi people. He is desiring to follow in the footsteps of his father when he takes over the rulership of the kingdom. But there was a problem: he has been introduced to the Christian faith at the only missionary college in the region- a belief that would drive him into seeking a solution to a problem that threatens to ruin his father's standing legacy as one of the greatest king that has ruled the kingdom: Some thirty-five years ago, a young maiden, Maryann, against the will of the gods, had been erroneously banished from the kingdom; in accordance with the law of the Sakhi people: 'any maiden found to be pregnant outside wedlock, is immediately sent out of the land.' There is trouble in the land; and the solution lies in finding Maryann and her child. Things get complicated as Prince Rufai defiles the kingdom's royal funeral ground; when he invites his clergy friend to talk about a 'strange God' at the funeral ceremony of his late mother- the queen. Balak, King Makimba's twin, takes advantage of the situation, connives with the chief priest to eliminate his brother; in order to satisfy his age long desire to sit on the throne of Sakhi. Meanwhile, Prince Rufai leaves for Ghana in search of Maryann's child- the Unknown King that must be found in order to bring an end to all the calamities plaguing his people.Prince Rufai finds Maryann's mother in Kenya. Three months later, he returns to Sakhi with Maryann's second son; Eric; together with the Precepts for the Governance of the Sakhi Kingdom- a book authored by the Unknown King. Unfortunately, he finds his father dead- his father had been murdered by Balak; a few hours before Prince Rufai arrives at the palace. Prince Rufai and his sister, princess Anita; mourns their father. But justice must take its course. Balak is tried and sentenced. Prince Rufai is crowned king. It was a new day for Sakhi. He marries the love of his life, Moana- a woman he had met in Ghana. Together, they would herald the building of a new Sakhi kingdom- a new Sakhi founded upon the principles outlined in the Precepts for the Governance of the Sakhi Kingdom by the Unknown King- The Great Yeshua
