A lo largo de su extensa obra, Ibn Arabi se declara discípulo de Algazel, por lo que hallamos en él un sistema cerrado en lo que a teología, psicología y cosmología se refiere, quedando todo interrelacionado con sus intuiciones místicas. Aunque no de forma tan explícitamente manifiesta, también Abenmasarra es una influencia directa para Arabi. De éste toma el neoplatonismo en su sentido más positivo, las ideas de Plotino y los alejandrinos. Obviamente, su fuente principal es el Corán, pero la inteligencia de este hombre supo darle una visión realmente ingeniosa para desvanecer toda duda posible de heterodoxia.
