The story tracks the life of a young boy as he finds meaning in gestures such as holding hands with others as well as general acts of kindness. As he grows up, the true meaning of life becomes evident and the story comes full circle. This is a story that emphasizes gentleness, diversity, and acceptance in a world so desperately in need of such values. It also has a lyrical element to it as well with a verse mingled into the story. I have been an educator for more than a decade and have wrestled with how to teach young people the true meaning of humanity and human rights. This story is a good approach to this task because of its meaningful message and beautiful illustrations. When We Holds Hands will bring about an emotional catharsis for both reader and audience.
