Andrzej Paczkowski

Andrzej Paczkowski is a Polish historian known for his extensive work in the study of communism in Central and Eastern Europe, especially in Poland. His work has significantly contributed to the understanding of the impact of the communist regime on Polish society, as well as to the recovery of historical memory in the postwar period.

Throughout his career, Paczkowski has researched topics related to political repression, communist intelligence services, censorship, and opposition movements, such as Solidarność (Solidarity), of which he has been one of the main academic chroniclers. He has combined rigorous analysis of archival documents with a clear narrative that has made his work accessible to both the academic field and the general public.

He was one of the co-authors of The Black Book of Communism, where he contributed his knowledge about the communist experience in Eastern Europe. His critical vision has focused on showing the mechanisms of state control and social resistance against authoritarianism.
