Carlos Rangel
Carlos Enrique Rangel Guevara (Caracas, September 17, 1929 - January 15, 1988) was a prominent Venezuelan journalist, academic, and diplomat. He completed his higher education in the United States and Europe, earning his Bachelor of Arts at Bard College, the Certificat d'Études at La Sorbonne in Paris, and a master's degree at New York University. He was fluent in English and French, which allowed him to work as a certified translator. Academically, he was an instructor at New York University in 1958 and a professor of Opinion Journalism at the Central University of Venezuela between 1961 and 1963. In the diplomatic field, he served as the first secretary of the Venezuelan embassy in Brussels in 1959 and, years later, as ambassador to the Dominican Republic.

As a writer, Rangel is recognized for works such as "Del buen salvaje al buen revolucionario" (1976) and "El tercermundismo" (1982), where he critically addresses the sociopolitical reality of Latin America. These publications, prefaced by the French intellectual Jean-François Revel, were translated into several languages. Additionally, he was a columnist in various national and international publications, and his legacy includes the posthumous publication of "Marx y los socialismos reales y otros ensayos" (1988). His influence extended to television, where, along with his wife Sofía Ímber, he hosted the morning show "Buenos días" on Venevisión. Carlos Rangel tragically died by suicide in 1988, at the age of 58.
