Carme Valls Llobet
Carme Valls Llobet (Barcelona, 1945) is a Spanish endocrinologist and politician, a pioneer in integrating a gender perspective into medicine. Since 1983, she has directed the "Woman, Health and Quality of Life" program at the Center for Health Analysis and Programs (CAPS), where she has promoted research on health differences between men and women. From 1999 to 2006, she was a deputy in the Parliament of Catalonia for the Socialist Party of Catalonia – Citizens for Change.
She is the author of works such as Invisible Women in Medicine (2006; expanded edition in 2020), Women and Men: Health and Differences (1994), Women, Health and Power (2009), and Environment and Health (2018). Her work falls within the genres of scientific dissemination and feminist essay. She has been recognized with the Medal of the University of Valencia (2019), the Cross of Sant Jordi (2020), and an honorary doctorate from the University of Girona (2023).
